Power Through a Rough Day

After a dismally challenging workout on Friday - I had two hours of sleep then was up all night and straight though the day...makes for an unhappy mommy, a worn out tired mommy...and a reality slap in the face: I just can't deal with lack of sleep like I use to in my twenties. Ouch!
Dismal is being rather nice. I felt like every push was going nowhere. Despite my lack of energy, I did try my hardest. And apparently succeeded -my sore leggies showed me as my weekend progressed.
Came back strong today with a really solid leg workout and a good solid day of nutritionally sound eating. Okay, if you can add a few pretzels and two little corn chips to the mix. I am happy with it!

Lets talk about meal timing...cause for me that is what can make or break my nutrition in a day. So my challenge occurs in two ways. Firstly, when time is stretched too long between a meal and secondly when a meal is dragged out over a period of time. Both equal the same destruction. Overeating to satisfy my hungry tummy.
The first occurs when I struggle with getting my daughter to school at a time that is "off" for my eating. It's off because it pushes my workout right at the same time as my meal should be. Big Problem. As, I don't want to eat and rush right to the gym at times. It would be nice to have 30 mins to digest my food. Plus, my food along with my VPX NO Shotgun would be an overkill on my protein intake at one time. So, I planned ahead and did a 1 1/2 hour time frame for a meal in order to get my second meal digested and then also let my pre workout drink do its magic 45 minutes later. Yeah!
My second problem of the "extended meal" is a little more difficult. I just need to get over drinking my protein carb concoction when I am in bible studies and groups, and training clients. Cause, I don't want to offend them by drinking away.
What happens: is over the course of an hour or two...or three, I am sipping on my roughly 350 cal meal. Then, I am hungry.
Results: Not good. I want to snack on everything in sight to stave of my hunger to a time I think is more appropriate.

Okay, I am sure this is boring to you. But, I truly hope it helps you to look at your eating and see what/how you might be doing to throw off your nutrition.

So a cute story: the fun never ceases! My son was watching our favorite Food Porn Show (well, that's what I call it to myself)- Man vs Food. He is eight. And apparently they mentioned that "Cinnamon puts you in the mood". He gets up, gets the cinnamon and eats it. My hubby hears him proclaim: "I am so happy now - wow, I need to take this stuff before I go to school!!"
Too funny!! How sweetly innocent.
Lord, please let the innocence last forever!

  1. Oh that is such a sweet comment from your little guy! Cinnamon is actually a great spice to use for so many reasons.

You hit the nail on the snacking head for me with this post. I do so well all day long, but around 4pm when I am starving and supper is being cooked I tend to snack and not on the good stuff (I am using that for dinner) so I end up eating too much.
