The New Kid In Town

If you are one to travel, and still try and make it to a fitness facility...then you know this well.

With anything new, there is always an adjustment period. The best way to deal with that change is to plan ahead and prepare.
That goes for eating healthier, trying to pick up new habits, trying to drop old habits, til you "get" what you need to do to overcome the change.

So we were away in Florida for Spring Break with our kids. I told myself I would aim for 2-3 mornings to workout while we were there. I was excited to check out a different gym in another city, and looking forward to the change of environment.
I scoped out my gym and got my travel passes and printed out directions - prepared or so I thought... nothing prepares you for the feeling that you get when you actually arrive at a different facility and walk thru the doors.

I liken it to a first timer just getting into fitness or someone that has not worked out for a while.
Highly intimidating, overwhelming and nothing seems in the places you expect them to be.

What does all that mean?? It means wasted time search for equipment, finding something that will work in replace of a different piece of equipment that you normally use....it means "thinkin on your feet" and an added 20mins to your total workout time.

It also means distraction. My hubby and I were a lot distracted that first day in the gym with our workout. Looking around at the different people, the gym atmosphere - which has a lot to do with setting the tone of your workout; and people looking at us. The New Kids In Town.

Yes, it was an odd situation...but a welcoming one! With it being only one week off my 2nd placing at the Arnold Amateur, you can see I was still in decent shape when we got to Florida.
I guess/and hope I am getting closer to my goal of turning pro, that people think I am actually "someone!" So, we had many interruptions and questions during our workouts away.

Being The New Kid In Town as it relates to you and a stop at a hotel or motel gym when you travel means preparing, planning ahead, and focusing when you get there.

By the second trip to the gym, we were much more efficient and comfortable. We had two great workouts in our five day visit to Florida.
